ABSTRACT

Interlocking planks are becoming a common profile on the building steel envelope market. After a short introduction to these profiles and there specificities, we will see which tests were carried out during the GRISPE project and what were the results of these tests. We will then see the design procedure we developed based on these results. We will eventually take a look at the amendment proposal submitted to CEN to include this method in the Eurocode.

LEARNING GOALS

After the module, you will be able to …

  • remember the reasons plank profiles were developed, why plank profiles are subject to dislocation of the joint under suction loads and the specific behaviour for plank profiles when disposed in hyperstatic configuration
  • comprehend the formula given to verify the non dislocation of the joint
  • apply the design method to evaluate the resistance of a plank profile
